Common pests
Silverfish: signs and control
Silverfish are quiet, but they damage paper, books and stored goods. They like humid, dark places, so moisture is usually part of the answer.
Signs of silverfish
- Small, fast, silvery insects in bathrooms, laundries, cupboards or wardrobes
- Damage to paper, cardboard, books or wallpaper
- Tiny yellow marks or droppings in stored items
Why they keep coming back
Silverfish thrive where it is humid and sheltered. Treatment helps, but it is much more effective when moisture and storage conditions are dealt with too.
What we do
- Find where they are living and what is attracting them
- Treat harbourage areas such as wall voids, cupboards and skirting
- Advise on ventilation, moisture and storage
- Recommend a follow-up if activity is heavy
What you can do
- Reduce moisture with ventilation and by fixing leaks
- Store paper and linen in sealed plastic containers instead of cardboard
- Keep stored items off floors and away from walls
- Declutter cupboards and wardrobes
Before treatment
Tell us about children, pets, aquariums and anyone with health concerns when you book. We will explain what is being used, where, and what precautions apply.
